Traditional Wood Bar Stools
Every one, in their own minds, will have a different picture of what a traditional bar stool made of wood will look like. The fact that it is made from wood already suggests that it is a traditional item, because wood has been used for making furniture for centuries.
Here are a few features of wood bar stools that I consider, when all on the same stool, to be traditional:
- Back
- No Movement
- No Padding
- Classic Design
Back – none of this backless business, the traditional has to have a back and not a one piece either. The back has to have a base and a top and sides with the middle being filled up with poles in nice fancy shapes. I know that there are bar stools made from wood that are considered traditional but not for me.
No Movement – By this I mean that it cannot have anything that swivels or anything that goes up or down. I consider all of the advances in technology to be just that. If it is traditional then it cannot be advanced in any way. A sturdy construction is what is required because sturdy is what comes to mind. An adjustable height stool is what I call technologically advanced.
No Padding – Many wood bar stools have a padded back or a padded base. Why would anyone ruin such beautiful wood and such beautiful wood work with easily aged and easily ruined padding and material. If your bar stool really is quality and made by a true professional, then it should be comfortable enough not to need anything except wood.
Classic Design – four legs, somewhere to put your feet, a high back and that is it. If it is to be traditional then it can not have any cool, funky or interesting designs. A classic is exactly that and it looks great no matter where you place it in your home or bar.
As you can see from the above features, that all have to be present in the one stool, my definition of traditional is pretty strict and you may have opposing views and disagree with me. That is ok because who defines traditional anyway? Whatever your thoughts, a classic made bar stool with a really beautiful wood is really a very good buy. Go out and have a look at what is available and you will have a better idea of what you might want.
